Bon Festival (お盆祭)

07/20/2018 - 07/21/2018

Free

A Gannenmono commemoration wall will display a lantern in memory of each of the 153 original Japanese labor immigrants to Hawaii, in celebration of 150 years since they arrived in 1868.

A special lantern memorial service will be held at 6:15 pm on both evenings to remember the brave pioneers as well as the many others who preceded us. Also featured are a Mt. Fuji-inspired illumination garden, peace light tunnel and performances by Dazz Toguchi and Grant “Sandaa” Murata jikata. Yatai food booths feature classic bon dance favorites, plus ramen, unagi donburi, yakitori, garlic shrimp, ramune drinks and Shimazu Shave Ice.
